The World Within: How People Create Their Own Realities

We often think of the world as a shared reality, a common ground where we interact with others and experience the same events. But what if the world is not so objective and universal? What if each person has their own world, shaped by their dreams and emotions, that may differ significantly from the world of others?

This is not a hypothetical question, but a psychological phenomenon that has been studied for decades. According to the constructivist perspective, people construct their own realities based on their personal beliefs, values, expectations, memories, and interpretations. They do not passively perceive the world as it is, but actively create it as they want it to be.

This does not mean that people are delusional or detached from reality. Rather, it means that reality is subjective and relative, depending on the person's perspective and context. For example, two people may witness the same event, such as a car accident, but have different accounts of what happened, depending on their attention, prior knowledge, biases, and emotions. Similarly, two people may have the same goal, such as becoming a doctor, but have different paths and motivations to achieve it, depending on their values, interests, abilities, and opportunities.

The world within each person is also influenced by their dreams and emotions. Dreams are the expressions of the subconscious mind, revealing the person's hidden desires, fears, conflicts, and fantasies. Emotions are the reactions of the conscious mind, reflecting the person's mood, attitude, and appraisal of the situation. Both dreams and emotions can shape the person's perception of reality, making it more positive or negative, more hopeful or hopeless, more meaningful or meaningless.

The world within each person is not fixed or static, but dynamic and evolving. It can change over time as the person learns new information, encounters new experiences, develops new relationships, and faces new challenges. It can also change in different situations as the person adapts to different environments, roles, and expectations. The world within each person is not isolated or independent, but interconnected and interdependent. It can affect and be affected by the world within others, through communication, empathy, feedback, and influence.

The world within each person is a unique and fascinating phenomenon that deserves our attention and respect. It reveals the diversity and complexity of human nature and experience. It also offers us an opportunity to understand ourselves and others better, to appreciate our similarities and differences, to celebrate our strengths and overcome our weaknesses, to pursue our dreams and cope with our emotions. By recognizing and respecting the world within each person, we can create a more harmonious and compassionate world for everyone.
